Sam and Liz Berkheiser are a couple who started their lives together studying landscape architecture. They are now partners in a business creating landscapes along Florida's Forgotten Coast. In 2020, they moved their full-time residence from the Hudson Valley in New York to the historic town of Apalachicola, Florida, to be closer to family and to expand their professional work to the Gulf Coast region.

Sam and Liz both hold master's degrees in landscape architecture (MLA) from the City College of New York, where their studies focused heavily on historical research, analysis, urban planning, and design.

Before earning their MLA degrees, Sam worked as an Industrial Designer, conceptualizing, drafting, and building displays for high-end retail products across the United States. He is a sculptor, designer, and a registered landscape architect in New York and Florida, where he spent the better part of the last decade honing his skills on large-scale projects such as campus master plans, academic and public libraries, municipal buildings, and recreation facilities. Sam is especially skilled at bringing ideas to life in detail, form, and function.

Liz has been working in the landscape industry for the last three decades, with experience as a gardener, horticulturist, project manager, and landscape designer for residential and commercial properties in New York City, Long Island's Hamptons, its Gold Coast communities, and beyond. She has experience working with the New York City Parks Department on public works projects as well as civic spaces, multifamily housing projects, and commercial projects through public/private collaborative partnerships. Liz is a master gardener and member of the American Society of Horticultural Sciences. She enjoys composing native, resilient planting combinations.
